Enrollment and Registration

1. According to the regulation of the international undergraduate students’ enrollment of

Northwest Normal University (hereinafter referred as NWNU), students who are admitted by NWNU shall register and pay the tuition at the stipulated time with their passport and admission notice. Those who can not register on time shall ask for a leave to Foreign Students Affairs Office. Those who register two weeks after the due date(including two weeks)except due to force majeure or any incidents which BNU approves ,will be considered as automatically canceling the qualification of enrollment.

2. If a student obtains admission status by practicing fraud, once being checked and

verified, the qualification of his enrolment will be canceled.

3. Students shall submit “Foreigner’s Physical Examination Record” from the Gansu

Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau or shall take the physical examination in China arranged by the Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. Those who have the diseases that are not accepted by relevant rules shall leave China immediately

4. International students shall go through formalities of registering with a general passport

and student visa. Their admission qualification can be canceled if they hold other kinds of passport or visa and do not change it within two weeks after registration.

5. Students who have already obtained the student status shall go to NWNU to register with

their passport and student identity card, and then pay the tuition at the beginning of each term. Those who are not qualified to register or do not pay tuition will not be allowed to register. Students who can not register on schedule shall notify the Foreign Students Affairs Office and suspend the registration formalities. The admission qualification can be canceled if students do not register within two weeks and have no reasonable excuse. The requirement for registration of students at school: Finish courses in the teaching plan, go through all of the registration formalities and pay tuition on schedule.

6. Student who dot register can not enjoy the treatment of students at NWNU.

Discipline and Attendance Evaluation

7. Students should observe related disciplines and attend classes provided by the university.

Students are not allowed to be absent from classes, and are not allowed to be late or leave classes early. Students who are not able to attend classes because of illness or personal affairs should report to the lead teacher. Those who will take more than three days off should hand in written reports (students who leave for illness need to submit a medical certificate as well). If the lead teacher agrees and signs the report and the report is also approved by the Foreign Students Affairs Office, the students can take the days off. NWNU generally does not permit more than 14 days’ leave.

8. Students must take part in stipulated examinations.

9. Students who miss classes without asking for leave will be treated as being absent. As for

those who arrive late or leave early without proper reason, if the period of arriving late or leaving early accumulates to one hour, the time is recorded as being absent for one hour. Those whose hours of absence make up to more than one week will be given warning by NWNU; those whose hours of absence make up to more than two weeks will be given serious warning by NWNU; those whose hours of absence make up to 1/3 of the total class hours of a semester will be ordered to quit school or be regarded as quitting school voluntarily.

10. It is not allowed to travel during the studying session; those who travel during weekends

should guarantee that their regular study will not be influenced.

11. Evaluations and Record of Evaluations

(1) The total in-term result (100) consists of attendance (50) and in-term assignments (50).

(2) Students who miss classes although having asked for leave and hours of absence making

up 1/3 of the total class hours of a semester, who miss classes without asked for leave and hours of absence making up 1/5 of the total class hours of a semester, and whose accumulated deduction of attendance results make up more than 50 will not be allowed to take the final examination.

(3) As for the compulsory courses which last 6 hours a week, if a student misses classes one

hour after asking for leave, two points will be deducted from his total in-term result; if a student misses classes one hour without asking for leave, three points will be deducted from his total in-term result; the deduction is 50 points at most;if hours of absence after asking for leave add up to more than 25 (25 included) and if hours of absence without asking for leave add up to more than 16 (16 included), the student is not allowed to take the final examination and no record will be given.

As for the compulsory courses which last 4 hours a week, if a student misses classes one

hour after asking for leave, 2 points will be deducted from his total in-term result; if a student misses classes one hour without asking for leave, 2.8 points will be deducted from his total in-term result; the deduction is 50 points at most;if hours of absence after asking for leave add up to more than 18 (18 included) and if hours of absence without asking for leave add up to more than 10 (10 included), the student is not allowed to take the final examination and no record will be given.

As for the compulsory courses which last 2 hours a week, if a student misses classes one hour after asking for leave, 5.5 points will be deducted from his total in-term result; if a student misses classes one hour without asking for leave, 10 points will be deducted from his total in-term result; the deduction is 50 points at most;if hours of absence after asking for leave add up to more than 9 (9 included) and if hours of absence without asking for leave add up to more than 5 (5 included), the student is not allowed to take the final examination and no record will be given.

If hours of absence after asking for leave making up 1/3 of the total class hours of a semester or hours of absence without asking for leave making up 1/5 of the total class hours of a semester before mid-term, the student is allowed to take mid-term examination but he will be warned and announced to dean’s office.

Curriculum

12. Regulations on the issues of suspension and quitting for non-degree students international students refer to The Administration of Undergraduate International Students Record and that of graduate international students.

13. Students should apply for their resumption 3 months advance and are approved by Dean’s Office and Foreign Students Affairs Office. Students suspending because of illness must submit to International Students’ Office with healthy examination form issued by ratified hospitals of Chinese Embassy.

14. The university will not return any tuition to non-degree students on their own expenses who suspend schooling; students who have resumed their study are not supposed to pay the tuition for the duration of suspension.

15. Students suspending schooling will be given a certificate for suspension, with which the student shall come back to school to resume their study within the fixed date. Those who do not come back on time will be regarded as quitting; the university will not retain their student status; and the tuition is nonrefundable.

16. When non-degree students quitting schooling, the university will not retain their status as students.

Issues on Certificate

17. Non-degree students are to take examinations according to relevant regulations and those who can pass and study at least one year are awarded course completion certificate.

18. Students who fail to complete required courses, study plans or whose performance do not pass or who quit school midway will only be given a certificate of having studies in BNU which state the major and duration of study.

19. The certificates are expected to be received within one month after the closing ceremony. Those who fail to collect it or who lose it will not get a supplementary one.

Supplement

20. These regulations apply to full-time undergraduate international students and were put into effect in March 1st, 2011. If any previous regulations are inconsistent with the present regulations, the present regulations are to be implemented. If the present regulations are inconsistent with regulations established by higher authorities, the latter ones are to be implemented.

21. For issues not mentioned in these regulations, the principles set by “NWNU Regulations on Undergraduate Students’ Status Management” and “NWNU Regulations on Graduate Students’ Status Management” shall be applied.
